Helping Wyatt
A Prayer Child Foundation Story

Wyatt Eyerman - 9 Months Old

Wyatt Eyerman was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot during a routine check-up when he was only three months old. Shortly after, his parents were given the devastating news that his heart had a hole and two faulty valves that would require open heart surgery. This strong little boy struggled during the recovery process as several unexpected problems occurred, one of which was a grueling staph infection. Wyatt’s family has held strong through these tough times, but have been struggling to keep afloat ever since his father was laid off. A $700 gift was given toWyatt’s family on behalf of the Prayer Child Foundation. With this money, his family was able to help cover the expenses associated with Wyatt’s surgeries.

Helping Bella

Helping Bella
A Prayer Child Foundation Story

Izabella (Bella) Tapia - 3 Years Old

In October 2010, when Izabella (Bella) was only two years old, her family’s life changed forever. Her mother took her for a regular check-up and was told to immediately take her daughter to the Los Angeles Children Hospital where there would be a team of doctors waiting for her. After days of testing, Bella was diagnosed with langerhans cell histiocytosis. This means that her little body is producing too many langerhans cells that will build up in areas of her body and can form tumors or damage organs. In some cases, this disease is life-threatening.
Doctors found that the histiocytosis was attacking Bella’s skull and eye. It left her with multiple lesions in her head and a bulging appearance in the orbit area of her eye. Recently, it attacked again, causing her central nervous system to develop diabetes insipidus. The hospital visits, chemotherapy, steroid treatments and medication expenses are piling up as the months go on. A $1,000 gift was given to Bella’s family on behalf of the Prayer Child Foundation. With this money, her family was able to help cover the expenses associated with Bella’s medication.

Helping Addison

A Prayer Child Foundation Story

Addison Puma - 4 Years Old

Little Addison’s life has been a fight from the start. When she was born, she weighed less than two pounds and her father’s wedding ring could be placed around her wrist like a bracelet. As Addison began growing, her parents noticed one of her eyes beginning to cross. After a corrective surgery, her eye continued to cross and a second surgery was performed. In time, Addison’s eye began to cross again. This time she was sent for an MRI and her parent’s worst nightmare became a reality. Their little girl was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

After extensive research, Addison’s family decided to take her to St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee to undergo a seven-week experimental chemotherapy treatment. Addison is back to her cheerful self for now, but her doctors anticipate that her tumor will grow back. Addison’s family is prepared to make as many trips back to Tennessee (from Michigan) for treatment as needed to fight for Addison's life.
A $700 gift was given to Addison’s family on behalf of the Prayer Child Foundation. With this money, their family was able to help cover the expenses associated with Addison’s chemotherapy.

Helping Xavier

A Prayer Child Foundation Story

Xavier Waldow-Walker - 3 Months Old

When Xavier was born, he seemed to be perfectly healthy and happy. Less than one hour after his birth, a nurse noticed that his head was larger than normal and he was rushed to have it examined. Ultrasounds revealed that Xavier had a blood clot on his brain.

He was immediately transported to Loma Linda University Children's Hospital for further treatment. When he was six days old he had a Ventricular Access Device inserted into his brain. Over the next two weeks, fluid was drained from his little head six times. Xavier now has to be monitored closely to make sure that fluid build-up does not occur again. He also needs physical therapy several times a week because of the lack of and over-toned muscles throughout his body caused by a stroke. The closest physical therapist is 100 miles away from Xavier’s home. On top of the medical expenses associated with this treatment, his family also needs to cover the cost of food, gas and lodging for these trips.

A $1,000 gift was given to Xavier’s family on behalf of the Prayer Child Foundation. With this money, their family was able to help cover the expenses associated with Xavier’s physical therapy treatments.

Scent Blend Recipe-March

Here’s your chance to have fun with fragrance! Scent Blending is a collection of individual candles, that when burned together, create their own unique blended scent experience.
This month’s blend is: Spring Cleaning Day
Have the fragrance of a freshly cleaned home when you burn “Spring Cleaning Day” .This blend creates bold citrus notes swirled with an aromatic mix of rosemary for an invigorating spring fragrance. (P.S. this blend is also perfectly colored for a St. Patty’s Day display!)
(1) Rosemary Thyme (16 oz.)
(1) Bella® Luscious Vanilla Lime (8 oz.)
Make sure to use the exact sizes and quantities noted in this recipe. A slight alteration can be like adding salt when you needed sugar!
Arrange the candles on a heat-safe surface with the largest in the middle and the smaller candles interspersed throughout. When burning votives and tealights, use a holder to protect the surface.
Light each candle and let the aromas mingle for at least 30 minutes to create your new fragrance experience.
We share our favorites with you each month, and now we want to hear what you come up with! Let us know your favorite Scent Blends, send your recipes to: scentblends@goldcanyon.com.

Dear Maven

Put those product questions to bed! Do you have a product question you've been dying to ask? Well look no further for the answer! Maven is your all-knowing Gold Canyon product go-to girl.

Dear Maven,

I bought votives this year for the first time (loved the Cozy Christmas scent!) but they tend to make a mess of the votive glass holders. Is there any trick to lessen the mess? Please share!

Sincerely,

Stuck on Votives

Dear Stuck on Votives,

Girl … where have you been? I can’t believe you just now realized how wonderful our votives are. I’m glad you finally caught up to speed but, wow—have you been missing out! When it comes to cleaning, I generally let my people take care of it for me. But I do happen to have a little trick up my sleeve when it comes to cleaning out votive glasses. The secret is to stick them in your freezer for a few hours. I usually pop them in-between the stems of my chilled martini glasses. Two to three episodes of Desperate Housewives later, the wax is ready to be popped out. You can do this with a butter knife or flat screwdriver. If there is any residue, our Wax Remover will get it right off!

I don’t mean to brag, but … I do have the answer to all of your Gold Canyon questions. If you have one, don’t be shy. Send your questions to dearmaven@goldcanyon.com.

Your Votive Vixen,

Maven
